Most Entertaining Queue - Phantom Manor!

Welcome to those of you joining me from The Disney Chick and those of you just hopping
aboard! I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail!

This months topic is most entertaining queue/pre-show!

Of course ... mine comes from Disneyland Paris! There are so many to choose from! I found it really hard to pick just one! Star Tours and the Tower of Terror are definitely up there ... but I adore the queue area for Phantom Manor! And the pre-show is pretty amazing too ... a real Disney classic!

Lets start with the outside queue area - Phantom Manor is designed to look derelict and run down, which really adds to its spooky haunted feel. There's an errie, but equally gorgeous, little old gazebo with a music box inside that softly plays a slow version of Grim Grinning Ghosts, the attractions theme music.

Guests then zig zag their way past some peculiar looking fountains, up onto the porch of the manor.

Phantom Manor is unique from other Haunted Mansions in Disney Parks because you get to enter through the front door! A Castmember dressed as a servant of the Manor opens the door and invites groups of guests into the foyer. It the top corner, guest can see a mirror which Melanie Ravenswood, the doomed bride of the manor, fades in and out of.

From here guests are led into 'The Stretching Room' ... this is where the real fun begins! Around the top of the room there are four portraits of Melanie, one of her picking flowers in the Manor's gardens, one of her holding a parasol in a boat, another of her stepping into a stream and finally, one of her having a picnic with her fiance. With a voiceover from the Phantom, the room begins to stretch, along with the portraits! Each portrait reveals a more macabre situation for Melanie! She now picks flowers above a grave where a skeleton is emerging from, her boat is now at the top of a waterfall, the stream now has a water monster underneath her, and bugs, snakes and spiders are now heading for her picnic!

The Phantom points out in his sinister voice that there are no windows and no doors in the stretching room, leaving guests with a "chilling challenge" - to finding a way out! He laughs and says, "There's always my way". Suddenly, the lights go out, lightning and thunder effects rattle through the room and the ceiling high above turns see through - revealing the attic, in which the groom is hanging from the rafters on a noose!

The lights slowly come back on while a hidden door in one side of the room slides open to reveal a hallway in the manor, lined with morphing portraits! One of a knight on his horse that transforms into skeletons, one of a woman who transforms into a hissing Medusa, one of a ship that becomes a ghost ship and one of a woman who transforms into a panther. There is also a bust of a woman who's glare follows you as you walk by. At the end of the hallway there is large portrait of Melanie in her bridal gown, and a grand staircase leading to the upper floors, surrounded by flickering candelabras while a lighting storm thunders outside - here is where you enter your Doombuggie!

And then of course guests experience the amazing ride itself!

Phantom Manor also has a really cool post show! As guest are exiting the Manor, a tiny figure or Melanie can be seem along the way behind bars, telling guest to "hurry back" and "be sure to bring your death certificate". Ooooh er!

Finally, guests enter Boot Hill - a cemetery filled with some rather interesting gravestones! Here you can hear Melanie's beating tomb - a tribute to the original Haunted Mansion bride, whose red beating heart can be seen through her chest!

I've never noticed before, but apparently if you look back at the house from the exit, you can see the Phantom looking out the window! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for this on my next visit! :)

Disneyland Paris 20th Anniversary Launch!

I've been a terrible blogger and not updated in around a week! It's been pretty hectic round here lately! Hopefully I can make up for it by sharing some awesome footage from the 20th Anniversary celebrations at Disneyland Paris this week!

First up, this wonderful video of the brand new Disney Magic on Parade! Thank you so much to DLRPMagic for capturing this!

I just LOVE the floating effect (most likely due to roller skates .... but shh ... lets pretend it's magic!) seen on Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather and also the sorcerers in front of the last float! It's simple but really effective! The new music is just awesome too ... it gives me goosebumps!

Last Saturday also saw the premiere of the amazing Disney Dreams! This was broadcast live on Youtube and Dedicated to Dlp managed to record this magical experience so you can watch it again and again!

I have to say I haven't watched this yet ... only skipped through it because I don't want to spoil it! But I'm sure I'll give in at some point! It makes me so proud to see something so new and unique brought to my home park!

There is also this wonderful video from the official Disneyland Paris Youtube channel, summing up the weeks events! It also shows the very colourful new 20th Anniversary Train!

What do you guys think of the 20th Anniversary celebrations!? I have to admit I was worried that they wouldn't be able to top the 15th Anniversary celebrations ... but so far they've come pretty close! Now all I need is a trip over there to prove to myself that they're even better! :P

Disneyland Paris! 20 Days to 20 Years!

I can't believe it's the end of the "20 Days to 20 Years" series! I've has such a blast with my co-hosts Beth from Pursuing the Magic and Donna Marie from DISTherapy!

A whole range of Disney bloggers have taken part - one for each year Disneyland Paris has been spreading it's magic! To round up this wonderful series, lets take a look back at some major achievements of my 'home park' and most favourite place in the world - Disneyland Paris!

12th April - Disneyland Paris officially opens! At this point it's known as the' Euro Disney Resort'. The resort includes the Euro Disneyland theme park, Festival Disney entertainment centre and 6 themed hotels - Disneyland Hotel, Hotel New York, Newport Bay Club, Hotel Cheyenne, Hotel Santa Fe and Camp Davy Crockett.

12th April - Disneyland Paris celebrates it's 1st Anniversary by transforming Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant into a giant birthday cake! Also this year, Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril opens! This attraction brought a 360-degree vertical loop to a Disney roller coaster for the first time ever and George Lucas himself inaugurated the ride on December 10th.

26th March - Le Pays des Contes de Fées, a boat tour around miniature storybook sets, opens in the new Storybook Land within Fantasyland! Three days later, Casey Jr. - Le Petit Train du Cirque, a roller coaster circling the hills above the boat tour, also opens!
4th July - Les Mystères du Nautilus opens! The attraction took inspiration from both the original Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the 1954 Disney film adaptation.
1st October - Euro Disney Resort officially changes it's name to Disneyland Paris!

1st June - Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune opens! Based on the Jules Verne novel De la Terre à la Lune, the attraction includes the "Columbiad" cannon, which recoils with a bang and produces smoke as each car passes through, giving riders the perception of literally being shot into space!

29th June - Eurostar directs high speed rail services direct from London, Waterloo International and Ashford International to Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy, Disneyland Paris!

Disneyland Paris launches it's 5th anniversary celebrations with Carnaval des Fous - a Hunchback of Notre Dame inspired Festival of Fools! Once again the castle was transformed, this time with a “Château des Fous” overlay, and a special Hunchback of Notre Dame parade was launched!
Festival Disney officially changes its name to the now better known, Disney Village!

30th Match - The Wonderful World of Disney Parade premieres!
11th July - Tinkerbell’s Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks premieres! In my opinion, one of the best firework shows to grace the skys at Disneyland Paris, it would go on to run for a record 7 years!

28th March - The innovative 3D show Honey, I Shrunk The Audience opens!
31st December - Disney’s ImagiNations Parade premiers!

1st April - The Tarzan Encounter premiers!

10th January - 100 Millionth guest welcomed

16th March - Walt Disney Studios Park opens! It consists of 4 main 'studio lots' - The Front Lot, Toon Studio, Production Courtyard and the Backlot. The Disney Cinema Parade premiered on 2nd June.
Disneyland Paris also celebrates is 10th Anniversary! A giant birthday cake float was added to the Wonderful World of Disney Parade. Every day one child was chosen to ride the float and lead the crowd in blowing out the "candles" during many show stops along the parade route. The decoration of the Castle was a giant scroll,  placed above the entrance, with the number 10 lighting up at night.

5th July - Disney’s Fantillusion premieres! This amazing parade has been running for almost 10 years!! It's comprised of 12 floats, 400,000 light bulbs, over 600 litres of dry ice per show for the “show modes” and 9 tonnes of batteries are used each evening ... recharged for the next day!

26th June - The Legend of the Lion King premieres!

9th April - Space Mountain: Mission 2 opens! Instead of 'To the Moon and Back', the journey now takes guests beyond the Moon, to the very edge of our universe!

16th July - In honour of the 50th Anniversary of the original Disneyland in California, Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams premiered in Disneyland Paris!

8th April - Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast opens!

1st April - Disneyland Paris 15th Anniversary Celebration is launched! As one of the most successful anniversary celebrations to date, it was extended from the original finish date of 31st March 2008 to 7th March 2009! The castle featured golden Disney characters on the turrets and spires, with Tinkerbell on the highest, each holding one of 15 candles that were 'lit' during a special 'Candelbration' ceremony daily. A giant illuminated gold plaque featuring 15 was place on the front of the castle, similar to the 10th anniversary scroll.

25th March - The Molly Brown riverboat was rededicated! And this wasn't the only refurb! There were loads throughout the year in preparation for the 20th Anniversary in 2012! The most notable was probably that of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant throughout the first half of 2011!

The 20th Anniversary Celebrations bring an all new night time show to Disneyland Paris ... Disney Dreams! Also, the all new Disney Magic on Parade! A new permanent meet and greet with Mickey Mouse! And special extended opening hours! I can't wait!! What we know so far, I reported a couple of weeks ago, but I cant wait to see the final results of all the hard work Disneyland Paris are putting in to make their 20th Anniversary unforgettable!!

That's a wrap! 20 years of awesomeness!!
