Something About Me Saturday Blog Hop! Rainbow Cupcakes!

So 2 weeks ago in my 'Something About Me Saturday' post I said that my sister and I were gona attempt Rainbow Cupcakes! ... we failed ... miserably! lol! We used water based food colouring which wasn't great at colouring the cake batter ... and then it evaporated completely in the oven! So I did a little research an found out that I needed concentrated gel food colouring - which I couldn't find anywhere so I ordered some online from America! If finally came a few days ago ... and here are the results!

We figured colouring the cakes batter would take a while, so we cheated and used some cupcake mix! Then we split it into 7 plastic tumblers :)

And added a little food colouring to each cup :)

Look how concentrated it is! We only used the teeniest bit!

All done! Sister gives them a thumbs up! :P

Then we added a teaspoon of each colour to each cupcake case ... we did the rainbow backwards so that red would be on top :)

Once all the colours were in the cases, they were ready for the oven!

Tah dah! :D

Then we tried to make some rainbow icing :) We were going to make 7 different colours of icing and put them in a piping bag ... but we didn't have anything to make a piping bag! So on to plan B! We swirled some gel colouring into a bowl of icing with toothpicks ...

... and then mixed it a little ...

... and we tried to spread it on the cupcakes so that it went sort of rainbowy :P

 It kinda worked! lol!

And now the really fun part ... time to cut them open!

AND they tasted yummy!! :D Maybe next time we'll do proper Rainbow Icing ... with Rainbow Sprinkles ... and they'll be the mother of all Rainbow Cupcakes! lol!

Hope everyone's having a wonderful weekend!
